Hamlin’s #11 car rolls into town Aug. 2

NASCAR fans will have a chance to see the #11 FedEx Toyota in Galesburg from 2-4 p.m. Aug. 2 at NAEIR, 560 McClure St.
As sprint Cup fans know, the car is driven by Denny Hamlin. Through races of July 15, Hamlin was in 5th race in this year’s series, with two wins and 10 finishes in the top 10. Hamlin finished 9th in 2011.
Cruz Ramos, NAEIR’s vice president of public affairs, said this will be the car’s only appearance in Galesburg.
“We’ve got a contract with FedEx,” Ramos Said. “They’re our sole shipper.”
All drivers have a number of cars, of course, so it’s not that surprising the car will be here Aug. 2, when the next race is at Pocono, in Pennsylvania, on Aug. 5. For fans who get fired up seeing the car and want to attend a Sprint Cup race, the Aug. 19 race in Michigan, Sept. 16 race at Chicagoland (Joliet), and Oct. 21 in Kansas City, Kan., are the races closest to this area after the car makes its appearance here. The Sprint Cup Series Brickyard 400 in Indianapolis is July 29, the weekend before Hamlin’s car is in Galesburg.
Fans will be able to have their pictures taken alongside the car, while racing experts will be on hand to answer questions. Neither Hamlin nor his crew chief will be present.
