Illinois Senator Richard Durbin Representative Visits NAEIR
Senator Richard Durbin’s Representative, Kate Jennings, Tours NAEIR with President Gary C. Smith
GALESBURG, Ill., June 10, 2013 /PRNewswire/ —
Kate Jennings, representing Illinois Senator Richard Durbin, recently visited NAEIR (www.naeir.org,) a gifts-in-kind nonprofit organization based at 560 McClure Street.
Jennings, Staff Assistant to the Senate Assistant Majority Leader, is based in the Senator’s Rock Island office. She toured NAEIR’s 450,000 square foot warehouse and facility accompanied by the organization’s President and CEO, Gary C. Smith.
Jennings was also joined on the tour by several of NAEIR’s top managers. NAEIR is the first and leading organization of its kind in the United States. It redistributes an average of a hundred million dollars of products annually to deserving charities in the state of Illinois and throughout the country.
Jennings and Smith discussed NAEIR’s work as it continues to serve many of the material needs of the nation’s nonprofits, schools and churches while simultaneously assisting thousands of companies who donate the merchandise.
Over the past 36 years, NAEIR has sought to alert and educate American businesses regarding the tax saving, inventory management and philanthropic benefits associated with donations of inventory. In addition to serving as a repository for excess inventory donated by American corporations over the years, NAEIR has redistributed over $3 billion dollars of goods to approximately 12,000 charities across the country.
NAEIR’s President and CEO Gary C. Smith’s experience at the helm of the leading gifts-in-kind organization in the country suggests a strong affinity with some of Senator Durbin’s legislative priorities. This is especially evident with regard to the Senator’s efforts in growing the economy and support of education, as well as charitable causes in general, as a highly regarded national leader.
